HSHC presented the organisation and our projects at three fairs held in September and October 2008.

From 18 until 20 September HSHC participated at the Agricultural Show in Nyeri. The show which was organised by the Agricultural society attracted a lot of people involved in agriculture. Amongst them also Deputy Prime Minister Uhuru Kenyatta who praised HSHC for our innovative work. “It is exciting that HSHC managed to add value to locally available resources that were previously neglected”, he said.
HSHC’s booth was visited frequently as people came to know more about our bio-diesel and oil projects.

Upon invitation by strategic partner Jomo Kenyatta University, HSHC also attended the Nairobi International Trade Fair held from 29 September until 4 October. During the fair, President Kibaki and Prime Minister Odinga honoured the organisation with a visit as they informed themselves about our activities. They praised HSHC for our good work and pledged government support for bio-diesel initiatives. The organisation’s booth was visited by about 1,500 people daily including Minister William Ruto of Agriculture, Minister George Saitoti of Internal Security, the Chinese and Sierra Leone envoys and representatives of the international business community.

The project was awarded with 3 prizes: For the best striking display of a locally manufactured product, for the best stand exhibiting agricultural or earth moving equipment and for the best research and development project.

Finally, in cooperation with Total Kenya, HSHC attended the Nairobi Energy Exhibition on 9-10 October. Once again, President Kibaki talked with HSHC staff to learn more about our work. “Young people should be taught about conservation and how to make sustainable use of trees and other natural resources”, he commented.

The three fairs further improved our profile and raised people’s awareness on our work towards poverty alleviation of forest-adjacent communities.
